Itinerary

Day 1

On your arrival in Athens you will be greeted by our English speaking driver who will take you to your Central Athens hotel where you will spend the night. The rest of the day is yours to do as you as you wish, maybe take in the streets of the Plaka, at the base of the Acropolis, taking in the busy winding streets with its multitude of shops and restaurants. If you arrive early in the day, allow us to arrange a tour of the city, the Acropolis and Cape Sounion to see the best of the city in air conditioned comfort.

Day 2

Your hire car will be delivered after breakfast and after checking out you will drive up the national highway to Delphi. Delphi is approximately 180 kilometres north of Athens nestled in the hills of of Mount Parnassos, home of the gods. You will travel through the towns of Thebes, Levadia and the quaint tourist town of Arachova, which is a perfect place to stop for lunch. Just outside of Arachova is the archaelogical site of Ancient Delphi, the location of the oracle and one of Greece's most sacred sites. It is an afternoon well spent, wandering around the well preserved ruins of these amazing temples. The museum on the site is also excellent and well worth more than a fleeting visit. If you would like to find out more, let us arrange for a professional English speaking guide to meet you at the entrance at a designated time to enhance your visit. Once you have scoured the delights of Ancient Delphi, drive on to Delphi town to spend the night. Delphi is the perfect place to have a traditional Greek meal in a taverna, and there are many down the main street of Delphi from which you can take your pick.

Day 3

On day three, after breakfast and check out, you will drive to Ancient Olympia, heading south through the mountains. The drive to Olympia is approximately 190 kilometres and you can divide up the drive by visiting some of the picturesque villages on the way, such as Galaxidi. The drive also takes you over the largest and longest suspension bridges in Europe found outside of the towns of Rio and Antirio. Once you are over the bridge you're in the Peloponnese and you will head south to Ancient Olympia, home to the Olympic Games and the location where every four years the Olympic flame is lit before it is relayed to the city of the Modern Games. The ancient site is worthy of an afternoon visit and we can arrange an English speaking guide to show you around this fascinating spot. After visiting this most famous of Greek antiquities, check into your nearby hotel and find some dinner in any one of the nearby restaurants and tavernas.

Day 4

Today's journey will take you from ancient Olympia to Nafplion, the first capital of Greece. Over the 180 kilometre there are a number of fascinating and wonderous ancient sites to visit on the way. The Lions Gate at Mycenae is one of the oldest ancient sites of the modern world, dating back nearly 5000 years. The ampitheatre at Epidaurus with it's perfect acoustics that would put most modern auditoriums to shame is also a must. There a many villages on the way to Nafplion that can show you the real Greece. Maybe stop in at one of these villages for a simple taverna lunch and a glass of retsina. Arriving in Nafplion late in the afternoon take in this quaint seaside town overlooking the Aegean Sea. Check into your hotel and spend the evening in this bustling seaside town. Top the day off by having dinner dinner in a local restaurant, complete with traditional Greek music and dancing.

Day 5

Make the most of your second to last day by exploring the rest of Nafplion after breakfast and check out. The Bourtzi Castle and the Palamidi fortress are worth a visit and we can arrange a guided tour of the town for you if you wish. You will be driving the 150 kilometres back to Athens today and there is plenty to see on route. Many of the towns between Nafplion and Athens have wonderful handicrafts, lace and silver shops. Ancient Corinth is a must see for history buffs and the ruins are up there with Delphi and Olympia. You will also pass by the amazing engineering feat that is the Corinth Canal. Where boats were once dragged across the small spit, there is now a deep water canal that allows ships to pass from the Adriatic to the Aegean Sea. Wander back to Athens to check into your inner city hotel and spend the evening wandering the Plaka once again scouring for souvenirs, or maybe have a gourmet dinner in any one of Athen's many international restaurants.

Day 6

Depending on the time of your flight, you may wish to do some last minute shopping, visit the amazing National Archaeological Museam or if your flight is later in the day, maybe book a half day sightseeing tour of Athens to show you some of the sites you may have missed. Make sure you leave plenty of time to drive yourself to the airport, drop off your car and catch your flight home.

Fabulous trip and attention to detail!

Anthony Alagiah with Antelope Travel planned the perfect family trip for us in June 2023. Anthony was a pleasure to work with, he communicated in detail and was very responsive to any questions I had and even stayed in touch while we were in Greece.
This was our first visit to Greece and he patiently guided me during the planning process and planned perfect itineraries for Athens, the islands and the mainland so we could experience a variety of different parts of Greece. Keeping three teenage boys engaged and interested isn't always easy but all of Anthony's tours, tour guides and activities worked perfectly for all of us!
We had many air, land and sea transfers and Anthony's planning and his partners ensured that everything went smoothly for us.
We were referred to Anthony from friends and I highly recommend him! I have now referred other friends to him, as thanks to his expertise, we had a fantastic family trip to Greece.

Trip of a Lifetime!

We had a wonderful family trip to Athens and Santorini. We could not have done it without the expertise of our travel agent Anthony Alagiah and the fantastic tour guides and drivers arranged through Anthony. He spoke to us months before our trip to find out exactly what we wanted. He sent us spot on suggesstions for tours and hotels. In Athens we were met by a great driver, Yianis, who was our driver for our time in Athens. He was extremely friendly and welcoming and we felt confortable travelling through Athens with him behind the wheel! The tours we did included the Walking Food Tour in Athens (highly recommend), 3 island cruise, private tours of Delphi, Cape Sounion and the Acroplis. Our hotel in Athens, the Athens Lodge, was centrally located, very clean, had a great breakfast and very friendly staff! In Santorini we were met by a welcoming tour guide and driver and our hotel (Hotel Santorini) was stunning! We did two tours in Santorini, the catamaran sunset cruise and the 5 hour hike through Santorini. The catamaran sunset cruise had delicious food, great saling and a brethtaking sunset! The hike was probably the best tour we took as we saw so much of Santorini, with lots of breaks for water and snacks. We couldn't have had a more remarkable, perfect family vacation! We highly recommend Anthony and Antelope Travel because their service made our vacation the trip of a lifetime!
