Petalidi - Greece vacations

Petalidi, at the top of the Messinian Gulf is a small town filled with the charms of a place out of reach of tourists. Just the reason you need to visit. The town offers everything the tourist looking for the real Greece needs to enjoy their holiday.

The town has a number of good restaurants and tavernas that are near the port. The town’s square or Platia has many coffee shops, bakeries and on Fridays, there is a market, which is great if you are looking for a bargain. The church just off the square is also worth a visit.

Petalidi was originally known as Epia, a thriving city at the time of the Trojans. Later in history it changed its name to Koroni, now the name of a village to the South. There is a castle at Koroni, the narrow winding Venetian streets to the promontory with views of the mountains and the gulf.

The beaches on the Messinian Gulf are also worth visiting, being far less crowed than many of the more popular locations. Little pockets of paradise can be sought out with the help of a good map and some local advice.
