One hour drive from Chania town through the countryside and up the White Mountains will take us to the plateau of Omalos, the starting point of the 16km long Samaria Gorge.
You can enter the gorge and hike just a small portion with your guide, then head back following the same path ( a steep downhill hike down and harsh uphill hike up, the max hike in the gorge is 45min per way, going further down is not an option on this tour).
Instead, you can choose to leisurely explore the plateau, enjoy the spectacular views, take pictures and have a mountain tea at the local kiosk.
The itinerary for the rest of the day is loose, your guide will present on the spot a range of available options, so you can choose to hike from null to 3 hrs, stay with the crowds or avoid them altogether, taking one of the quieter trails the area offers.
The day ends with a visit to the laid back village of Sougia, by the south coast, where you will enjoy a swim by the clear waters of the Libyan Sea and lunch at one of its waterfront tavernas.
Late afternoon return to Chania.
