Itinerary

Day 1

As soon as you land at the Athens airport, our English speaking guide will welcome you and then will transfer you to one of the most luxurious hotels in town by a modern air conditioned vehicle, this will be your abode for the following two days. You can spend your time in this historic city and get soaked up in nostalgia that Athens have to offer. You can head for Plaka, which is a traditional mansion with a lot of lovely shops and restaurants.You can have your dinner in one of the incredible Greek restaurants.

Day 2

Enjoy a private six hours walking tour of Athens with Antelope's very knowledge guide. Commence your tour by visiting the brand new Acropolis museum and continue with a must-visit tour of the Acropolis, the heart of both the ancient and modern city of Athens, where you will have the chance to admire worldwide famous ancient Greek monuments such as the Parthenon and the Erectheion. Enjoy a walking through the busy and noisy streets of Monastiraki, the modern flee market of the city, where the locals enjoy their souvlaki (or gyros) sandwich after shopping. Reach the archaeological site of Olympieion, where the temple of Olympian Zeus is located (the same ticket is valid, approx.: 20 min.) At the termination of your visit walk through the National gardens, stop to take a picture in front of the beautiful neoclassical Zappion building and after a 10 minute walk reach the Panathenaikon stadium, where the first modern Olympics were held. Walk across the Herode Atticus street, full of elegant apartment buildings, and stop for a minute in front of the neoclassical and elegant Greek President's mansion, guarded by the Evzones (presidential guards).

Day 3

Take our private tour and you'll find superb local beaches along the sheltered Saronic Gulf stretching from the southern suburbs of Athens to the southernmost point of Attica, Cape Sounion. Only 10 miles south of the city typically a 30-40 minute drive you will find a place where urban sprawl gives way to an idyllic palm fringed setting. Relax at the sandy private beach of Asitr Palace in Vouliagmeni, exercise your favorite water sport, shop in one of the area's modern shopping centers, have lunch by the sea or entertain yourself in one of the coastal avenues buzzing clubs the young people's favorite choices that have actually brought a touch of Mykonos in town!

Day 4

See the major sights of mainland Ancient Greece in all its glory on this four day, three night coach tour. Early on the first day of the tour, you will be collected from your hotel, your luggage loaded onto the air conditioned luxury coach and you will make your way westward towards the Peloponnese. Your first stop will be at the Corinth Canal. The Ancient Greeks had slaves drag boats across the narrow spit of land that separated the Aegean Sea from the Adriatic Sea; modern man has created a canal to allow ships to pass. The Corinth Canal is a wonder of modern engineering; we will stop here for a short time to take in this modern marvel. Leaving Corinth, the tour makes its way to Epidaurus to visit the town's incredible amphitheatre. This well-preserved site, built over two thousand years ago has some of the most perfect acoustics you will ever experience. Somebody standing on the stage can be heard whispering from the back row. Epidaurus has to be experienced to be believed and your guide will give you more information on this fascinating place. After Epidaurus, the coach makes its way to the town of Napflio, the first capital of Greece, a picturesque town with an intriguing fort in the centre of its harbour. After lunch, the coach then makes its way to Ancient Mycenae, home to some of the oldest civilisations found in Greece. The home of the lauded King Agamemnon this ancient site was once one of the most important centres of the Bronze Age. The famous Lions Gate is the crowning jewel of the archaeological site which you will have the chance to explore with you English speaking guide. After this tour, the coach will make its way to the town of Olympia in the west of the Peloponnese, where you will check into your hotel for the evening. Dinner is included. This is a great opportunity to get to know your travelling companions and reflect on the amazing sights you have seen.

Day 5

After breakfast and checkout, you will board the coach for the quick journey to the site of Ancient Olympia, home of the Ancient Olympic Games and the site where the flame for every Modern Olympic Games is lit. The tour of this fascinating site will take in the Sanctuary of Zeus and the rest of the site of the Ancient Olympic Games. Your English speaking guide will give you a complete overview of the site and its fascinating temples and stadiums. Your entry will also take you into the Olympia Archaeological Museum where artefacts from the ancient games are on display. After your time at the Olympic site, you will board the coach and travel North to the port town of Patras and then to the East to Rio. At Rio, the coach will travel over the largest suspension bridge in Greece. A marvel of modern engineering, the bridge spans the Gulf of Corinth, joining the Peloponnese to the Greek Mainland. Once over the bridge, the coach makes its way north to the quaint town of Nafpaktos. Later in the afternoon, you will travel to the ancient town of Delphi, where you will check into your hotel for the evening. Dinner will be provided at hotel's restaurant.

Day 6

oday will be one of the more memorable days of the tour. Checking out of your hotel after breakfast, the coach will take you the short distance to the site of the Sanctuary at Delphi. This is one of the most sacred and beautiful ancient sites in Greece. Nestled high in the hills at the foot of Mount Parnassos, Delphi has been part of the Greek psyche for many centuries being home to the famous oracle and the vestal virgins who used to tend to the Temple. You will spend the morning discovering this fascinating ancient site for yourself. Your guide will give you more information about this very special place, letting you take in the ruins of the temples, bath houses, and the well preserved amphitheatre. Your entry ticket also gives you admittance to the Delphi Archaeological Museum with its fascinating array of artefacts. Around lunch time you will board the coach and make your way to the town of Kalambaka, travelling through the towns of Amphissa, Lamia and Trikala on the way. The landscape changes as you travel north, the mountains become starker and the land more lush. Arriving in Kalambaka, you will check into your hotel and have dinner.

Day 7

Waking in Kalambaka in the shadow of the mountains, you will spend the morning at one of the most unique places on the plant. After you have your breakfast and check out of the hotel, the coach will wind its way up the mountain to the site of the monasteries at Meteora, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Meteora means "suspended in air" which is literally how most see these monasteries, perched high up on the sheer cliff and mountain faces. This site has been fascinating visitors for decades. In olden times, there were no stairs and access to these structures, with supplies winched up to the monks by pulleys and windlasses. The monks would move between the monasteries using retractable robe ladders. Today, these ancient wonders are still home to many monks. On the tour of the monasteries you will visit some of the monasteries that are more easily accessible to the public and take is their artistic wonders, marvelling at the very different life of those who spend their day hovering high in the sky like eagles. After the tour of Meteora, the coach will take you back to Athens, travelling though Thermopylae, the place where 300 Spartans held of the Persian army. After a short stop for photos, you will travel through the town of Kamena Vourla and back to Athens to catch your flight to Thessaloniki Our driver will transfer you in air conditioned comfort to the airport for your one hour flight to Thessaloniki. Once you arrive in Thessaloniki you will be met by our representative and taken to your hotel where you will be staying for the next three nights.

Day 8

There is no doubt that you should not leave North Greece without visiting the archeological sight of Vergina, one of the most important in Greece, where you can see the Royal tombs and admire the world famous gold findings. During the day we will drive across beautiful Macedonia, which is called the "Garden of Europes and we will visit some of the most interesting places of the Greek ancient history by following the traces left by Alexander the Great. We will also visit Pella, the ancient capital town of Macedonia and the native town of Alexander the Great, and you will see the exhibits of the museum and the archaeological site with the marvelous mosaics

Day 9

Philippi Full day Tour Depending on your starting point this tour leads you either past both sparkling lakes Koroni and Volvi or just one of them until Asprovalta with a short stopover for a coffee. Afterwards you will visit the Lion Statue in Amphipolis and the tour continues to Kavala, where you will have the occasion to see the port and the Roman aqueduct during our city tour. After that you have time for lunch and a stroll around the city. On your way back from Kavala you will visit Philippi, where you will see the famous Amphitheatre, ruins of early Christian basilicas and the baptizing place of Lydia.

Day 10

Our representative will collect you and transfer you to the airport to catch the flight to Santorini. On your arrival in Santorini, our representative will take you to what is sure to be some of the most memorable accommodation of your life. The views from your hotel will be unparalelled as you look of the caldera and onto Nea Kameni, the volcano in the middle of the sea. Have your dinner at a restaurant on the edge of the caldera overlooking the spectacular

Day 11

Treat yourself to a fun and a culinary feast filled with exclusively Santorini flavors and traditional Greek delights. Private cooking class at a restaurant by the sea, lunch, and then transfer to Oia to watch the sunset.

Day 12

A 5-hour tour to the archaeological excavations at Akrotiri, and then enjoy wine-tasting while the sun goes down. After we pick you up, we will begin with a panoramic view from Profitis Ilias (10min. stop just for photo shooting); then the tour will reach the excavations of the famous Akrotiri in the south side of the island, settlement that witnesses the presence of the ancient civilization set on the island before the explosion of the 1500 BC (1h30min stop.). Next to the Archaeological site and then the Red Beach, where we will stop again for photoshooting (15min.). The tour will end at the winery of "Santo Wine" where you will have the chance to taste wine indigenous during sunset time.

Day 13

After your check out our driver will transfer you to the airport. There you will catch your flight to Athens and walk across the airport to the hotel . Spend your last day at the Athens Sofitel hotel

Day 14

After breakfast, depending on the time of your flight, you may be able to do some more shopping

Athens, Crete and Santorini tour

Anthony was a fabulous tour planner for our family, multi-generational trip. He put the itinerary, tours, transportation and hotels together seamlessly and everything was wonderful. He really listens and can modify things to suit your particular needs. Took all the stress off the trip.
