Day 1 Riverwalk in Naxos Private Full Day Hike
This full-day 11 km hiking tour offers a unique way to experience Naxos’ natural beauty, starting with a transfer from Naxos Town to the mountain village of Kinidaros. The trail leads through terraced village paths and quiet rural roads before descending onto a stone-paved route with panoramic views over the Chalantron area. Along the way, walkers may spot crabs, turtles, butterflies, and other small wildlife.
The hike reaches the riverbanks near six historic watermills, the impressive stone bridge, and the 18th-century Mill of Hadji. A short detour brings travelers to notable monuments including the grand Agios Artemios basilica and the Byzantine complex of Agios Demetrios.
The main path continues into a lush river gorge with waterfalls, dense vegetation, and a series of traditional mills, including the notable Fabrica complex. Moving toward Eggares, hikers cross the fertile Lagada region, visit the charming chapel of Agios Georgios, and encounter natural springs, reeds, and the imposing four-arched aqueduct. A nearby detour reveals a small cave-monastery of the Nativity and the 18th-century Pradouna Tower.
The final stretch passes the rural hamlet of Mesa Geitonia, with an optional stop at the ruined Byzantine church of Panagia Monastiriotissa, before arriving in Eggares. Here, visitors can explore the restored traditional olive mill, the Byzantine monument of Taxiarchis, and the surrounding orchard-filled valley near the Ammiti wetlands. The day concludes with local treats, wine, and Greek coffee, followed by a transfer back to town.
